IndiGo officials said on Monday that the airline’s Crisis Management Group (CMG), established on December 4, has been holding daily meetings to oversee and address the ongoing operational disruptions. The CMG, formed during its first meeting last week, is monitoring all aspects of the situation as the airline continues to face large-scale delays and cancellations across multiple airports.
According to officials, the CMG’s top priorities include restoring full operational integrity, ensuring timely communication with passengers, speeding up refunds and flight rescheduling, and facilitating the return of baggage. “We continue to work around the clock to bring the network back to full capacity,” IndiGo said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted a one-time 24-hour extension to IndiGo’s Accountable Manager and Chief Executive Officer to submit their response to a Show Cause Notice issued on December 6. The notice was prompted by widespread operational disruptions and instances of non-compliance observed by the regulator.
IndiGo sought more time in a request dated December 7, citing the scale of its nationwide operations and various unavoidable factors contributing to the disruptions. After reviewing the plea, the DGCA extended the deadline only until 6 pm on December 8, clarifying that no further extensions would be permitted. The regulator also warned that failure to submit a complete reply within the specified timeline would lead to ex parte action based on available records.
Passengers were seen standing in long queues at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after multiple flights were cancelled, highlighting the severity of the disruptions that the CMG is working to resolve.
