New Delhi [India], April 25: Amid escalating diplomatic tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, IndiGo Airlines on Friday issued a travel advisory after Pakistan closed its airspace for Indian flights. The airline has offered passengers options for rescheduling or refunds, as multiple international routes face disruption.
“Due to airspace closure by Pakistan, a few of our international flights continue to be impacted,” said IndiGo in an official statement shared on their X handle. “Our teams are working diligently to assess the situation and assist impacted customers with the best possible alternatives.”
The airline acknowledged the inconvenience, calling it an “unforeseen circumstance” and added, “We sincerely regret the disruption it may have caused to your travel plans.”
Passengers whose travel is affected have been advised to visit IndiGo’s website for flexible rebooking options or to claim a full refund based on their preference.
🇮🇳 Diplomatic Fallout: India’s Strong Countermeasures
The closure of Pakistani airspace comes in the wake of India’s stern response to the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, including 25 Indian nationals and 1 Nepali citizen. India has accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism and has taken sweeping countermeasures:
- Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (1960) until Pakistan ends support for terrorism.
- Closure of the Integrated Attari Check Post with immediate effect.
- Cancellation of SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas for Pakistani citizens.
- Pakistani diplomatic personnel including military, naval, and air advisors have been declared persona non grata and asked to leave within a week.
- India to withdraw its own military advisors from the High Commission in Islamabad, including five support staff.
- Reduction in diplomatic staff at both Indian and Pakistani High Commissions to 30 from 55, effective May 1, 2025.
As the geopolitical fallout intensifies, travelers flying to or through Pakistan-affected routes are advised to monitor airline updates and prepare for potential delays and changes.
