Washington DC [US]: The US-based Indian diaspora organisation, Indiaspora, extended its congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump ahead of his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, scheduled for Monday. In a press statement, the organisation acknowledged the increasing political engagement and influence of the Indian-American community.
Since its establishment in 2012, Indiaspora has focused on fostering nonpartisan political involvement and celebrated the appointment of several Indian-Americans to key positions in the incoming Trump administration.
Key Appointments Highlighted
Indiaspora recognised the following individuals for their appointments in President Trump’s second-term administration:
- Harmeet Kaur Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the US Department of Justice.
- Vivek Ramaswamy, appointed as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
- Kash Patel as FBI Director nominee.
- Dr. Jay Bhattacharya as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
- Sriram Krishnan as Senior AI Advisor.
The organisation lauded these appointments as evidence of the growing influence of Indian-Americans across diverse fields such as civil rights, national security, healthcare, and technology.
Statements from Indiaspora Leaders
MR Rangaswami, Founder and Chairman of Indiaspora, congratulated President-elect Trump and expressed optimism about the continued growth of US-India relations.
“On behalf of Indiaspora and the Indian-American community, I’d like to congratulate President Trump as the 47th President of the United States. I expect US-India relations to continue flourishing amidst this new political climate in America,” Rangaswami said.
He also highlighted the strong bipartisan support for the US-India partnership and praised the efforts of senior officials on both sides to strengthen ties.
Sanjeev Joshipura, Executive Director of Indiaspora, highlighted the organisation’s role in promoting civic and political engagement within the Indian diaspora. He also acknowledged the consistent appointment of Indian-Americans to senior roles in government across various administrations.
“Two of Indiaspora’s key focus areas over the years have been our efforts to increase the Indian diaspora’s civic and political engagement in a nonpartisan manner and to strengthen US-India ties. It is heartening to see every successive American administration, regardless of political party, place Indian Americans in senior roles in government,” Joshipura stated.
He further noted Indiaspora’s continued commitment to catalyzing bilateral dialogues, as demonstrated during Trump’s first term.
