India’s Space Economy Set to Triple in 10 Years: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Highlights India’s Rising Global Standards in Space Sector and Vision for a National Space Station by 2035

New Delhi, December 15: The Indian space economy, currently contributing 8-9% of the global space economy, is projected to triple within the next decade, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced during the India Economic Conclave organized by Times Network in New Delhi.

The Union Minister emphasized that India’s space sector has undergone a quantum leap since 2014, placing the country on a path to achieving global benchmarks.

Key Developments in India’s Space Sector

Minister Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for opening up the space sector to private players, which he said offers unprecedented opportunities for creative growth.

“India will have its own space station by 2035,” the Minister stated, adding that unexplored areas like space, marine, and Himalayan resources will significantly contribute to India’s economic growth. “There is no dearth of resources, potential, commitment, or passion in India,” he remarked.

ISRO’s Rapid Growth Under PM Modi

The Minister highlighted the remarkable progress of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in recent years. “Although ISRO was established after NASA, today it stands as a global leader. Since 2014, India has launched 397 satellites out of a total of 432,” he said, underscoring ISRO’s growing capacity and capability.

Vision for 2047 and Beyond

Looking toward India’s centenary of independence in 2047, Singh called for aligning the country’s strategies with global standards to achieve transformational growth. He stressed that India’s underexplored resources in the space, marine, and Himalayan domains would play a vital role in shaping the nation’s future economic trajectory.

The Path Ahead

India’s space sector, bolstered by increasing private-sector participation and advancements in satellite technology, is positioned to become a cornerstone of the nation’s economic growth. With ambitious plans such as a national space station by 2035 and continued emphasis on global collaboration, India is set to cement its status as a leading player in the global space economy.

As Singh remarked, “India’s journey in the space sector has only just begun, and the next few decades will define our place among the stars.”
