New Delhi [India], May 11: The Indian military’s ongoing Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, marks a pivotal shift in India’s counter-terrorism posture, signaling a “new normal” in its dealings with cross-border terrorism, according to top sources.
The operation, which began on May 7, involves precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). It was initiated after the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of several Indian security personnel.
“Operation Sindoor is not over,” sources told. “We are now in a new normal. The world has to accept this, and Pakistan must realise it cannot be business as usual.”
India’s strategic response has come amid renewed international focus on the region. US President Donald Trump on Sunday welcomed the apparent cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, praising both nations for avoiding a potentially catastrophic escalation. In a post on Truth Social, he claimed credit for helping “broker peace,” and suggested the US would increase trade with both nations while offering to help resolve the Kashmir issue — a longstanding point of contention.
“I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” Trump wrote, adding, “God bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done.”
Despite Trump’s comments, India has firmly rejected any third-party mediation on the Kashmir issue, maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and the matter is strictly bilateral.
Meanwhile, tensions have flared again along the Line of Control (LoC). On Saturday, Pakistan reportedly violated the understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, triggering retaliatory action from the Indian Army.
At a special media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed India’s deep concern. “There have been repeated violations of the understanding reached earlier today,” he said, referring to the agreed cessation of hostilities. “We take these breaches very seriously.”
Misri further confirmed that India has instructed its armed forces to maintain high vigilance and respond decisively to any future violations along the International Border and the LoC.
“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” he added.
Operation Sindoor continues as India redefines its military engagement protocols in the region, asserting both sovereign resolve and strategic clarity in response to terror threats emanating from across the border.
