We reiterate our advice against job offers in the area without consulting Missions,” the Indian Embassy stated.
Ongoing Efforts to Rescue Victims
The embassy has been actively working to rescue Indian nationals lured into such scam networks. On August 27, 21 Indians were freed from the Dongmei scam center in Myawaddy. Earlier, six individuals were rescued on August 20, one on August 12, and three on August 2, showcasing the consistent efforts of Indian authorities in collaboration with Myanmar’s local support.
The embassy expressed its gratitude to Myanmar authorities for their critical role in these operations.
Background of the Scam
According to the Indian Embassy, the victims were ensnared by an international crime syndicate operating in the Myawaddy region on the Myanmar-Thailand border. These groups exploit unsuspecting individuals by offering fraudulent job opportunities through social media and other unverified channels.
The embassy reiterated its advisory urging Indian citizens to exercise caution when considering job offers in the region without verifying through official channels.
The successful rescue of these individuals highlights the continued efforts to combat human trafficking and job scams targeting vulnerable populations.
