New Delhi: A growing number of Indian professionals are preparing to become entrepreneurs, with new data showing that India’s startup and small business landscape is rapidly transforming. According to LinkedIn’s latest Small Business Work Change India Report, a remarkable 104% increase has been recorded in the number of Indian members adding the title ‘founder’ to their profiles in just one year.
The report highlights that over 7 in 10 professionals in India want to work for themselves in the near future, marking one of the strongest shifts towards entrepreneurship globally.
LinkedIn notes that this movement is being powered by three key factors:
- Accelerated AI adoption
- Growing brand credibility
- Strong professional networks
India Outpaces the World in AI Adoption
AI has become deeply integrated into the operations of Indian small and medium businesses (SMBs).
Key findings from the report show:
- 97% of Indian SMB leaders already use AI in some capacity
- 82% say AI has made starting and running a business easier
- 83% believe AI is now critical for business growth
- 95% of SMBs are already investing in or planning AI adoption, significantly higher than the global average of 83%
The rapid adoption is supported by a strong push for upskilling. AI literacy among SMBs (with 11–200 employees) has risen 52% year-on-year, and 81% of SMBs acknowledge that they are actively investing in AI capabilities.
“India’s Small Businesses Are Moving Fast”: LinkedIn
Kumaresh Pattabiraman, India Country Manager at LinkedIn, said the country’s entrepreneurial landscape is transforming faster than most global markets.
“India’s small businesses are moving with extraordinary speed and ambition. What sets India apart is the combination of rapid AI adoption, a strong skilling appetite, and the power of trusted professional networks,” he said.
He added that as we head into 2026, India’s SMBs are not just adapting to change—they’re leading it.
LinkedIn, he said, remains committed to helping Indian SMBs build credibility, find talent, and unlock opportunities throughout their growth journey.
Global Shift Toward Authenticity and Connection
The report highlights a worldwide shift toward genuine online engagement. Globally:
- 61% of small business owners create content themselves
- 71% believe being authentic online is crucial
In India, this trend is even stronger.
- 85% of marketers say audiences are increasingly following real voices — such as customers, employees, partners, and creators — because these voices influence smarter decision-making.
With the rise of AI-generated content, LinkedIn states that relationships are becoming essential infrastructure for insights, opportunities, and long-term business resilience.
Moreover, 88% of business leaders globally believe that people skills matter even more in the age of AI, reaffirming the importance of human connection despite technological advancement.
