New Delhi [India]: Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone in the financial year 2024-25, manufacturing 7,134 coaches, marking a 9% increase from the previous year’s production of 6,541. The focus has been on non-AC coaches, with 4,601 coaches produced to cater to the needs of the common man.
Production Growth & Key Manufacturing Units
India’s three major coach manufacturing units played a crucial role in this achievement:
- Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai – 3,007 coaches produced.
- Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala – 2,102 coaches manufactured.
- Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Rae Bareli – 2,025 coaches produced.
Decade of Growth in Coach Production
Coach production in India has seen substantial growth over the years:
- 2004-2014: An average of 3,300 coaches produced annually.
- 2014-2024: A major boost, with 54,809 coaches manufactured at an annual average of 5,481 coaches.
This surge aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in Railway manufacturing, improved connectivity, and modernization.
