Indian-Origin Influencer Nancy Grewal Stabbed To Death In Canada; Family Says She Received Threats

An Indian-origin social media influencer, Nancy Grewal, was stabbed to death in LaSalle, Ontario, Canada earlier this week, prompting an ongoing homicide investigation by local authorities.

According to the LaSalle Police Service, emergency responders were called to the 2400 block of Todd Lane shortly before 9:30 pm on March 3, 2026, following reports of a stabbing.

Police said a 45-year-old woman with serious injuries was found at the scene and rushed to hospital by Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, where she later died.

Authorities subsequently identified the victim as Nancy Grewal and confirmed that the investigation into the homicide is ongoing.

Family Alleges She Had Received Threats

Speaking to reporters in Jalandhar, Punjab, Grewal’s mother, Shinderpal Kaur, said her daughter had been receiving threats prior to the killing.

Kaur urged Canadian authorities to quickly identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.

She also revealed that Grewal had survived an earlier incident in which her house was allegedly set on fire, after which she continued to receive threats.

According to her mother, a suspicious man once came to Grewal’s residence with his face covered, seemingly to conduct a reconnaissance.

“Nancy had installed CCTV cameras at her house. When she noticed him through the cameras, he got scared and fled,” Kaur said, adding that the cameras may have prevented a possible attack at that time.

Kaur said she last spoke to her daughter on March 2, but her calls went unanswered the following day.

Who Was Nancy Grewal?

Nancy Grewal, born on January 19, was of Punjabi origin and had moved to Canada in 2018.

Her mother said she completed a nursing course after moving abroad and was working with two companies while living in the nearby city of Windsor, Ontario.

Grewal had built a strong online presence, amassing more than 1.18 lakh followers on Instagram, where she frequently posted videos and commentary on social and political issues related to Punjab.

She lived in Canada with her pet dog, Bazveer, and had taken responsibility for supporting her mother after her father passed away.

Controversial Views On Khalistan Issue

Grewal was known for expressing strong opinions on political matters online.

She had publicly spoken against Khalistani groups and had also criticised pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

More recently, she had also made remarks about Gurinder Singh Dhillon, the head of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, after his meeting with Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal, at Nabha Jail on February 2.

Her family believes the threats she received could be linked to her outspoken views, though authorities have not confirmed any motive so far.

Investigation Underway

Police in LaSalle said the homicide investigation remains active, and further details will be released as the inquiry progresses.

The killing has sparked concern among members of the Indian diaspora in Canada and among Grewal’s followers online, many of whom have demanded justice.
