Jakarta (Indonesia): Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, expressed strong concerns on Friday over anti-India resolutions passed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), emphasizing that such actions hurt Indian Muslims and are counterproductive to peace and unity.
During a significant diplomatic interaction in Jakarta, Chakravorty thanked Indonesia for its support in thwarting Pakistan’s attempts to criticise India on the Kashmir issue at the recent OIC Parliamentary Union meeting.
“Anti-India resolutions of OIC countries hurt Indian Muslims. Indonesia is a friend of India—why should other friendly OIC countries support such resolutions? India is home to one of the largest Muslim populations in the world,” said Chakravorty.
Pakistan’s Isolated Attempt Fails
Pakistan’s move to insert anti-India rhetoric in the OIC documents failed, with Indonesia, Egypt, and Bahrain standing against the proposal—marking a diplomatic setback for Pakistan and reaffirming growing international support for India.
Ambassador Chakravorty urged OIC nations that are allies of India to reassess their stance and acknowledge India’s commitment to “Unity in Diversity.”
Shared Anti-Terror Resolve
Chakravorty also praised Indonesia’s anti-terrorism framework, noting its robust de-radicalisation initiatives and cooperation with India. He highlighted how both nations, with the largest and second-largest Muslim populations, share a common understanding of the threat of terrorism.
“Terrorism has no place in the modern world. India has a zero-tolerance policy, which resonates with Indonesia’s own stance,” said Chakravorty.
Engagement with Nahdlatul Ulama (NU)
As part of the Indian all-party parliamentary delegation’s visit, JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha led a meeting with KH Ulil Abshar Abdalla, MA, Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU)—the world’s largest Islamic organisation—and Kholili Kholil, NU Committee Member.
Jha urged NU to support India’s stand against cross-border terrorism and violent extremism, emphasizing shared values of peace and religious harmony.
“We share a civilizational ethos that believes in peace. NU’s support will send a strong message to the world,” said Jha.
NU leaders reciprocated the sentiment, with KH Ulil stating:
“I felt the pain of India. We stand with you against terrorism and violence against civilians.”
