The Indian community in Guyana extended a warm and enthusiastic welcome to the all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, expressing strong support for India’s response to terrorism, especially following the recent Pahalgam attack carried out by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.
Members of the diaspora hailed India’s firm stance, saying they stand in solidarity with the victims and back the government’s tough counter-terror measures.
Speaking to media, a member of the Indian community said,
“We all in Guyana condemn this terrorism and we are all with the citizens of India … our condolences are with them and we support each and every movement of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his fierce approach to this particular act of terrorism done by Pakistan.”
Harishankar Sharma, founder of Sanskar Bharti International, Guyana, praised the unity of the visiting political leaders against terrorism. Calling terrorism a global menace, Sharma told media,
“Terrorism is a sickness in the world. We welcome (all-party delegation) and we are very happy.”
Another community member commended the Indian government’s actions, saying,
“Indian citizens and Guyanese are completely with the Indian government.”
Appreciating India’s global outreach, he added,
“This is a great sign and way to counter and condemn the proxy war, misinformation campaign on social media and fake news.”
He concluded with,
“We always stand with the Indian government and the Indian society.”
Addressing the diaspora in Georgetown, Shashi Tharoor underlined India’s zero-tolerance approach:
“Our message is very clear. We have to stand against terrorism wherever it comes. We have to not only bring the evil killers to justice, but we must also seriously challenge those who are financing them, training them, equipping them, directing them to do their evil.”
India has dispatched all-party delegations to several countries as part of a global diplomatic campaign to present a unified national consensus against terrorism. These delegations are tasked with informing international partners about India’s firm response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the broader threat of cross-border terrorism.
In retaliation to the Pahalgam attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
