New Delhi [India], April 23: Prominent figures from the Indian cricket fraternity, including former and current players as well as national head coach Gautam Gambhir, have voiced their grief and outrage over the horrific terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his deep sorrow:
“Deeply saddened by the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Praying for the victims and for the strength of their families. Let us stand united in hope and humanity.”
Irfan Pathan, who was in Kashmir recently, shared his anguish:
“Every time an innocent life is lost, humanity loses. It’s heartbreaking to see and hear about what happened in Kashmir today. I was just there a couple of days ago — this pain feels too close.”
Former opener Virender Sehwag wrote:
“Deeply pained to hear of the reprehensible terrorist attack on innocent tourists in #Pahalgam. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured.”
Current Team India stars also added their voices. Vice-captain Shubman Gill said:
“Heartbreaking to hear about the attack in Pahalgam. My prayers are with the victims and their families. Violence like this has no place in our country.”
Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul echoed similar sentiments:
“Heartbreaking to hear about the terrorist attack in Kashmir. My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength.”
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir, known for his strong views on national issues, stated:
“Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
Meanwhile, the Indian Army and J&K Police have launched a massive search operation in the Baisran area of Pahalgam, Anantnag district, to track down the attackers. Delhi Police has also been instructed to enhance security at key tourist and public locations.
Following the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar on Tuesday evening to conduct a high-level security review. He vowed that the culprits would not be spared.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cut short his state visit to Saudi Arabia, held an emergency meeting at Palam Airport with top officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, to assess the situation and strategize further action.
