Indian Army Responds To Continued Pakistani Firing Across LoC Amid Pahalgam Attack Fallout

Amid heightened tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, the Indian Army responded decisively to unprovoked small arms firing by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) during the intervening night of May 2 and 3, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to defence sources, Pakistani forces targeted areas opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Indian Army responded promptly and proportionately,” officials stated, reaffirming India’s commitment to maintaining control and deterrence along the volatile border.

Ceasefire Violations Continue Despite Hotline Talks

This marks the ninth consecutive day of unprovoked firing from across the LoC, with Indian forces effectively retaliating each time.
Pakistani forces had also opened fire across multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor during the nights of May 1-2 and April 25-26.

Despite a hotline communication earlier this week between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries, ceasefire violations have persisted.

“India has warned Pakistan against such provocations,” sources said, adding that Indian forces continue to act with calibrated precision and measured responses.

Strategic Fallout of Pahalgam Attack

The military escalation follows a wave of diplomatic and strategic responses by India after the Pahalgam terror attack:

  • On April 30, India closed its airspace to all Pakistani-registered, operated, or leased aircraft, including military flights, until May 23, via a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
  • Visa regulations were tightened, with India revoking all categories of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, except long-term, diplomatic, and official visas.

These moves signal India’s zero-tolerance approach to cross-border terrorism and its increasing reliance on strategic, diplomatic, and military tools to isolate Pakistan on multiple fronts.
