Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 20: In a strong and swift retaliation to unprovoked aggression by Pakistan, the Indian Army launched Operation SINDOOR on the intervening night of May 7–8, using Medium Machine Guns (MMGs), Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), and mortars to dismantle Pakistani forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector.
The action was in response to a ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Army, following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. Operation SINDOOR was planned as a tri-services effort aimed at delivering a decisive and punitive blow to terror infrastructure across the border.
A soldier involved in the operation shared:
“This episode took place on the night of May 7–8. Pakistan violated the ceasefire. We studied their pattern of fire and responded within seconds. Their bunkers and launching pads were destroyed, and heavy casualties were inflicted.”
The soldier added that when Pakistan failed to retaliate effectively, they turned their fire towards civilian areas and even attempted to deploy drones, which were neutralized by Indian forces.
An Army Lieutenant elaborated:
“At around 1:30–2:00 AM on May 7, Pakistan targeted civilians. Our battalion was fully prepared. Within 10 minutes, we launched a precise and effective assault on their forward positions and launching pads, destroying multiple posts.”
An Army Captain provided additional insights:
“We fought a face-to-face battle using direct firing weapons, with support from our mortars. We used ATGMs to destroy around 10–12 enemy posts in the Poonch area. Their artillery was countered, their drones shot down, and even their ammunition storage was obliterated.”
Operation SINDOOR was launched not only as a retaliatory strike but also as a calibrated campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure both along and beyond the LoC. The fencing along the LoC remains fortified, and Indian troops are on heightened alert.
With morale high and vigilance unwavering, Indian forces continue to maintain dominance along the volatile border, sending a clear message that unprovoked aggression will be met with overwhelming and accurate force.
