In a swift and strategic response to a fresh infiltration attempt, the Indian Army successfully neutralized two terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.
The operation, named Operation TIKKA, took place in the general area of Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, a known infiltration corridor. According to the Chinar Corps, alert troops deployed along the LoC challenged the infiltrators, triggering a heavy exchange of fire.
“On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 unidentified terrorists tried to infiltrate… The alert troops on the LC challenged and intercepted them resulting in a firefight. Operation is in progress,” the Army posted on social media platform X.
Weapons Cache Recovered, Operation Still Active
Following the elimination of the two terrorists, a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like materials was recovered from the site. Security officials are continuing the operation in the area to confirm if more infiltrators are involved or hiding nearby.
Context: Tensions High After Pahalgam Terror Attack
This latest encounter comes just days after the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam on Tuesday that killed multiple innocent civilians, including tourists and locals. The attack has triggered nationwide outrage and sparked urgent security operations across Kashmir.
Troops have since intensified surveillance along the LoC, and search operations are being carried out across Anantnag and adjoining districts to hunt down those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.
Valley Mourns, Protests and Shutdowns Continue
In response to the attack, residents across Kashmir and Jammu have taken to the streets in candlelight marches and protests. Towns such as Baramulla, Poonch, Kupwara, Srinagar, and Jammu have witnessed mass gatherings in solidarity with the victims’ families.
From youth groups in Khod village of Akhoor to workers of Bajrang Dal in Jammu, voices from all corners have condemned the violence and demanded decisive action against the perpetrators.
Tourism Hit Amid Fear and Grief
The impact has extended to tourism as well. Several tourists, including Sameer Bhardwaj from Delhi, shared that they are cutting their trips short due to the tense atmosphere and the recent violence.
“We had plans to visit Pahalgam, but now we’re heading back to Delhi. The situation is not good,” Bhardwaj told reporters.
Political and Civilian Outcry
In addition to security operations, political leaders, trader unions, and civil society organisations have collectively called for a complete bandh across Jammu and Kashmir to honor the victims and express public dissent against rising terror threats.
