Indian Army Clarifies: No DGMO Talks With Pakistan Scheduled, Ceasefire Has No Expiry Date

The Indian Army on Sunday clarified that no talks were scheduled between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan for the day. The Army also emphasized that the ongoing ceasefire agreement reached in the May 12 DGMO interaction has no expiry date.

The statement comes in response to media reports suggesting the ceasefire would end on May 18, which the Army has dismissed as inaccurate.

“No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as the continuation of a break in hostilities as decided in the DGMOs interaction of 12th May is concerned, there is no expiry date to it,” said the Indian Army in an official statement.

On May 12, the DGMOs of India and Pakistan held significant discussions, focusing on the need for continued restraint and a commitment from both sides to avoid firing or aggressive actions along the Line of Control (LoC) and other sectors.

During these talks, both sides agreed to consider immediate measures to de-escalate troop presence in border and forward areas.

The proposal for the ceasefire reportedly came during a call from Pakistan’s DGMO to his Indian counterpart, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, on May 11. Speaking at a joint press conference, Lt Gen Ghai said that his Pakistani counterpart proposed a cessation of hostilities, to which India agreed in the interest of stability.

The talks and ceasefire understanding followed the launch of Operation Sindoor by the Indian Army on May 7, in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. As part of Operation Sindoor, Indian forces struck nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The Indian Army’s reiteration aims to quash any speculation and reinforce the commitment to maintaining peace along the borders — unless provoked.
