Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, India— landmine explosion along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir killed an Indian Army soldier and hurt two others. The event happened during a patrol to control an area, which shows how dangerous it is for soldiers to work in the sensitive border area all the time.
Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment has been named as the soldier who died. Mohammed Shafiq, the Medical Superintendent of Poonch District Hospital, verified the sad news, saying, “An Army Jawan named Lalit Kumar was hurt in a mine blast.” He died because of his injuries.
The Army’s White Knight Corps, which is based in Nagrota, paid a sad tribute to the soldier who died. The Corps wrote on X (previously Twitter), “#GOC #WhiteKnightCorps and all ranks pay sad respect to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who sacrificed the ultimate sacrifice while on an area dominance patrol in the approximate region of #Krishna Ghati brigade on 25 July 2025, after a mine blast. In this time of loss, we stand with the family of the deceased.
According to official reports, the event happened about 12:15 PM close to Victor Post of the Indian Army in the village of Salotri in Haveli tehsil. The soldiers were doing a normal area domination patrol in the Krishna Ghati sector, which is known for its tough terrain and the presence of anti-personnel mines. People think that an M16 anti-personnel mine went off during the mission.
Naib Subedar Hari Ram and Havaldar Gajendra Singh are the names of the other two injured troops. Both were taken off the scene right once and flown to the Army Base Hospital in Udhampur for more specialized medical care. It is said that their condition is stable.
Troops patrolling the Line of Control are always at risk of landmine attacks. others commonly lay these mines as part of an Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) to stop others from getting in. Heavy rain, for example, might sometimes relocate them from their original placements, which can cause explosions during normal operational movements.
Security troops often patrol the sensitive LoC areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts to stop people from crossing the border and to keep an eye on any suspicious activity along the unstable border. There has been more security in the area, especially because the yearly Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage is happening on right now and the Budha Amarnath Yatra is coming up.
Authorities have started looking into the blast to find out exactly what happened. The Indian Army sent its deepest sympathies to the family of Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who had died.
