New Delhi [India]: The Indian Armed Forces on Wednesday provided an official briefing on Operation Sindoor, a coordinated military strike targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead.
Speaking in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh outlined the mission’s key objectives and strategic impact. The precision strikes destroyed nine terror sites, including five major camps in PoK associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)—both UN-designated terrorist organizations.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi detailed the following camps:
- Shawai Nallah Camp (Muzaffarabad): A LeT facility where terrorists responsible for recent attacks in Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam were trained.
- Syedna Bilal Camp (Muzaffarabad): A Jaish-e-Mohammed center for weapons, explosives, and jungle warfare training.
- Gulpur Camp (Kotli): Linked to the April 2023 Poonch and June 2024 pilgrimage bus attacks; located 30 km from the Line of Control (LoC).
- Barnala Camp (Bhimber): A major hub for IED, weapons, and survival training.
- Kotli Camp (13 km from LoC): A fedayeen training base for LeT operatives with a 15-terrorist capacity.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh explained the operational intent, stating:
“Operation Sindoor was launched as a direct and proportionate response to the horrific Pahalgam attack. The mission was carefully executed to serve justice to the innocent victims.”
She revealed that Pakistan’s terror network includes 21 active centers for recruitment, indoctrination, and cross-border launches. The operation was guided by precise intelligence, ensuring no civilian casualties or damage to public infrastructure.
The strikes occurred between 1:05 am and 1:30 am on May 7, involving seamless coordination between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Key camps affiliated with JeM and LeT were successfully neutralized, marking one of India’s most significant cross-border counter-terror operations since 1971.
