New Delhi – India has welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, expressing appreciation for the diplomatic roles played by the United States and Qatar in helping to bring about a halt in hostilities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it had been closely monitoring the overnight developments in West Asia, which included a US strike on Iran’s nuclear sites and Iran’s retaliation against US military bases in Qatar.
In the official press release, the MEA stated:
“While we remain deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability, we welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the US and Qatar in bringing it about.”
India reiterated its longstanding position that diplomacy is the only viable path to resolving conflicts in the region.
“We wish to reiterate that there is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy in order to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region,” the statement added.
The MEA further emphasized that India stands ready to contribute to any initiative promoting peace.
“India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability,” the release concluded.
India has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, particularly in the volatile Middle East, where its strategic interests and diaspora presence remain significant.
