New Delhi [India], January 3: Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized on Friday that the growing economic and technological partnership between India and the US is bolstered by the mobility of skilled professionals. He noted that both countries benefit greatly from each other’s expertise, particularly in areas such as technology and economic growth.
“India-US economic ties are strengthened by the technical expertise provided by skilled professionals. This collaboration is crucial for both sides, as we continue to leverage our respective strengths,” Jaiswal said. He also highlighted the importance of further deepening these ties for mutual benefit.
In a notable shift from previous views, US President-elect Donald Trump recently voiced his support for the H-1B visa program, calling it a “great program” that he has “always” supported. Trump acknowledged frequently using the visa for his own properties, stating, “I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times.”
This change in stance comes after the Trump administration imposed stricter H-1B visa regulations during his first term, citing concerns about “abuse” and economic impact. The program was further restricted in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump’s latest comments follow a rift within his MAGA team, where figures like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have advocated for expanding the visa program to attract highly skilled workers.
