India Urges Restraint As Israel Launches Strikes On Iran Nuclear Sites; Tensions Soar

New Delhi [India], June 13: India has expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, urging both nations to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement on Friday amid rising regional tensions following Israel’s aerial strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

“We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel,” the MEA said, adding that the situation is being closely monitored, including reports of attacks on nuclear sites.

India called on both sides to resolve differences through diplomatic channels rather than military action. “India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards de-escalation and resolving underlying issues,” the ministry added.

Highlighting its friendly ties with both nations, India stated it is ready to provide all possible support to defuse the crisis. The MEA also noted that Indian missions in Iran and Israel are in constant touch with the Indian diaspora and advised Indian nationals in the region to remain cautious and follow local security advisories.

The statement came after Israel launched a preemptive strike against Iran on Friday, targeting nuclear and military facilities. According to Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz, the operation was carried out to neutralise what he termed an “imminent threat” from Iran, which allegedly possesses enough enriched uranium to build several nuclear bombs within days.

Katz announced a nationwide state of emergency in Israel, warning of a possible retaliatory missile and drone assault by Iran. “You must obey the instructions of the Home Front Command and the authorities and remain in the protected areas,” he urged citizens.

Sirens were sounded across Israel as a precautionary measure, with the IDF’s Home Front Command declaring that the country was entering “a new situation.” No direct attack had occurred at the time, but military officials warned that a significant strike from Iran could be imminent.

The Israeli military confirmed that dozens of Iranian nuclear and military sites were being targeted under a large-scale operation dubbed “Nation of Lions.”
