India is set to repatriate 183 Iranian sailors from the Iranian naval warship IRIS Lavan, which is currently docked at the southern port city of Kochi in Kerala.
The move comes amid regional tensions and operational challenges affecting the vessel and its crew. Indian authorities are coordinating with officials from Iran to safely send the sailors back to their home country.
Why The Sailors Are Being Repatriated
According to reports, the Iranian sailors had been stationed aboard IRIS Lavan, which arrived at Kochi earlier. With the ship unable to continue its operations for now, arrangements are being made to transport the crew back to Iran.
Indian authorities are handling the process through coordination between naval, diplomatic, and immigration officials.
India–Iran Coordination
Officials from India and Iran are working together to ensure the repatriation happens smoothly. The sailors will likely be sent back via commercial flights or special arrangements, depending on logistical planning.
Kochi: A Key Naval Port
The port city of Kochi hosts major naval facilities and is an important maritime hub in southern India. The presence of the Iranian warship there had already drawn attention due to the evolving geopolitical situation in the region.
