India Officially Submits Bid To Host 2030 Commonwealth Games In Ahmedabad

NEW DELHI: India has made a big stride toward its sports goals by officially putting in a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. On Friday, a group from the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Government of Gujarat gave the official proposal to Commonwealth Sport (previously known as the Commonwealth Games Federation). The bid says that Ahmedabad will host the 2030 Games, which will be the 100th anniversary of the event.

This action comes after the Union Cabinet gave its assent, which also included the requisite financial guarantees to the Gujarat government if the bid is successful. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, when they were held in New Delhi.

According to Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi, India’s bid is based on the old ideas of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which means “the world is one family,” and “Atithi Devo Bhava,” which means “the guest is divine.” He claimed that these values would guide the organization and implementation of the event, with a focus on unity, human connection, and hospitality.

The Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) president, PT Usha, stated the bid “represents the hopes of an entire nation.” She went on to say that holding the Games in Ahmedabad would show off not only India’s sports skills but also its ideals of friendliness, respect, and inclusion. “As we celebrate the 100th edition, India is ready to welcome the Commonwealth family with warmth and excellence, inspiring a new generation to dream and achieve through sport,” Usha added.

India’s decision to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games is a smart move that fits with the country’s larger ambition of becoming a top athletic power. People think that big events like these can help build world-class infrastructure, bring in more tourists and stimulate local economies, create jobs, and get more people involved in sports at all levels.

Hamilton, Canada, and other possible host cities have pulled out of the race because prices are going up. India’s candidacy, which promises a full-fledged games with sports like hockey, shooting, and archery (which won’t be at the 2026 Glasgow Games), could make a strong case for Commonwealth Sport.

The Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow in November is likely to unveil the final decision on who will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
