New Delhi [India], June 2: As of 8 AM Monday, India’s active COVID-19 case count stands at 3,961, with 203 new infections and four deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The total number of COVID-related deaths in 2024 has now reached 32.
The latest fatalities were reported from Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Kerala, with each state confirming one death since Sunday.
State-wise Update
- Delhi recorded 47 new cases, raising its active case count to 483.
- Kerala remains the worst-affected state with 1,435 active cases, after registering 35 new infections.
- Maharashtra reported 21 new cases, with total active cases at 506.
- West Bengal logged 44 new cases, increasing its active caseload to 331.
Centre Assures Readiness
Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, reiterated the government’s preparedness, stating that both ministries are closely monitoring the evolving situation.
“Our health systems are well-equipped and ready to handle any situation that may arise in response to COVID,” Jadhav told ANI.
He also noted that the existing infrastructure—including oxygen plants and ICU beds—has been reviewed and preparations are already underway in case of further surges.
Karnataka Issues Advisory for Schools
In light of the current situation, the Karnataka Health Department has issued precautionary guidelines for government and private schools:
- Children showing symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold should not be sent to school.
- Parents are advised to seek medical care and follow appropriate treatment protocols.
