India Reaffirms Jammu And Kashmir’s Integral Status At UN Islamophobia Meeting

New York [US], March 14 : On Thursday, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, delivered a strong statement during the meeting held to commemorate the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. In his address, Harish emphasized the significance of religious tolerance and pluralism, while also responding to Pakistan’s continued claims over Jammu and Kashmir.

Harish criticized Pakistan’s attempts to politicize the Kashmir issue, specifically referring to comments made by the former Pakistani Foreign Secretary. “As is their habit, former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan today has made an unjustified reference to the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Frequent references will neither validate their claim, nor justify their practice of cross-border terrorism,” Harish asserted.

He underscored that Pakistan’s assertions would not alter the reality of Jammu and Kashmir’s status, reaffirming that the region remains an integral part of India. “The fanatical mindset of this nation is well known, as also its record of bigotry. Such efforts will not change the reality that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always be an integral part of India,” he added.

In his speech, Harish highlighted India’s diversity and pluralism, emphasizing that the country is home to over 200 million Muslims. “India is a land of diversity and pluralism. With over 200 million Muslims, India is home to one of the largest Muslim populations in the world,” he said. He further affirmed that India stands united with the global community in condemning incidents of religious intolerance against Muslims.

Harish also stressed the importance of tackling religious discrimination in all its forms, pointing out that it affects followers of every faith. “It is imperative to recognise that religious discrimination is a broader challenge that affects followers of all faiths. The path to meaningful progress lies in acknowledging that religio-phobia in its various forms threatens the fabric of our diverse, global society,” he said.

Concluding his statement, Harish called for unity in addressing religion-related issues. “There is a need to work towards a future where every individual, regardless of their faith, can live with dignity, security, and respect. Any deliberation on issues of faith must seek to unite, not divide,” he added.

India’s statement at the UN underscores its commitment to fighting Islamophobia and promoting harmony, while simultaneously defending its sovereignty and the integrity of Jammu and Kashmir.
