New Delhi [India]: India has made it clear that it will not engage in any discussions regarding the broader Kashmir issue, emphasizing that the only matter remaining is the status of Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), according to official sources.
Sources confirmed that any dialogue regarding the cessation of military operations will be strictly held through Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks, with no involvement from third-party nations or intermediaries.
“We are not ready to engage on matters of Kashmir. The only thing left on Kashmir is PoK. The message is that it is the DGMO-level talks which is the channel of communication with regard to cessation of military action. No third country or no third party is to be involved in this. India will not be ready to engage with anybody or any party other than the Pakistan DGMO,” sources said.
The Indian Armed Forces initiated Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, targeting nine terrorist facilities located in Pakistan and PoJK. The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including one Nepali national.
Following the operation, hostilities between India and Pakistan escalated, leading to intensified cross-border shelling and retaliatory strikes by Indian forces. Border areas were put on high alert, with blackouts reported during Pakistani attacks.
On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s DGMO had reached out to his Indian counterpart. Both sides agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea, effective from 5 PM the same day.
Misri stated that formal instructions were issued to uphold the ceasefire and announced a follow-up round of DGMO-level talks scheduled for May 12 at noon.
However, despite the agreement, reports emerged shortly afterward of Pakistan violating the ceasefire, with Indian air defenses intercepting Pakistani drones during a blackout in Srinagar.
India has urged Pakistan to take necessary actions to prevent further violations and handle the situation with seriousness and responsibility.
