New Delhi [India], June 21: The 11th International Day of Yoga was commemorated with nationwide enthusiasm, featuring major events in New Delhi and Gujarat, under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
At the Air Force Station in New Delhi, Air Warriors came together in a synchronized yoga session inspired by the live address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which emphasized global wellness and unity. In a post on X, the Indian Air Force (IAF) shared, “Unified in breath and balance, Air Warriors performed yoga asana in unison, fostering wellness, resonating with the IAF motto of People First, Mission Always.”
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the Yoga Day celebrations in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In a message posted on X, he remarked, “Yoga, which brings unity among mind, body and brain, has today become a part of the daily routine of people all over the world. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, I performed yoga with residents in Ahmedabad.”
Adding a remarkable feat to the day’s celebrations, Vadnagar in Gujarat entered the Guinness World Records for the most people performing the cobra pose simultaneously. A total of 2,185 participants initially took part, and after verification, 2,121 participants were officially recognized for successfully holding the pose for two minutes and nine seconds—far exceeding the minimum requirement of 250 participants holding the pose for at least one minute.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Richard Stunning confirmed the new record and praised the achievement:
“The confirmed title is 2,121 participants. Given that we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved—it’s a fantastic achievement.”
These events were part of the larger nationwide observance of Yoga Day, a global initiative introduced by India and recognized by the United Nations since 2015. Observed on June 21, the summer solstice, the day continues to symbolize health, harmony, and holistic living.
