New Delhi [India], June 9: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday highlighted India’s transformative progress over the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, citing a sharp decline in poverty and rapid economic growth as key achievements.
Puri emphasized that according to the World Bank, 279 million Indians have emerged from poverty since 2014, with the national poverty rate dropping dramatically from 24% to 5.3%. “These are staggering numbers,” he said. “If you compare them to the decades post-1947, they reflect a truly transformational era.”
He also pointed out that India’s economy has more than doubled during this time, expanding from $2 trillion to $4.3 trillion. “We are growing at a much faster rate than many of the countries we’ve overtaken or are currently competing with,” Puri added.
As the NDA government marked 11 years in office, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda also addressed the media, celebrating what he described as a shift in the nation’s political ethos. “The last 11 years under PM Modi have changed the political culture of India,” Nadda said at a press conference.
He added that under previous governments, politics was driven by appeasement and power preservation. “Now, politics is based on performance, accountability, and governance with a report card. We have set a new normal and established a new political order,” Nadda said.
Nadda praised the Modi government for its bold decision-making and economic discipline, asserting that the past 11 years have laid the groundwork for a truly developed and self-reliant India.
PM Narendra Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014. He began his third consecutive term after taking oath again on June 9, 2024. To mark the occasion, the government released a comprehensive e-book documenting achievements across various sectors over the last 11 years.
