India Launches ‘Operation Brahma’ To Aid Myanmar After Devastating Earthquake

New Delhi [India], March 30: India has launched Operation Brahma to assist Myanmar in the aftermath of a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake, deploying Indian Navy ships carrying 52 tons of relief material to Yangon, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on Sunday.

India’s Humanitarian Response

Under the Ministry of External Affairs’ direction, the Indian Navy, Army, Air Force, and NDRF are coordinating efforts for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations.

🔹 Indian Navy Ships Satpura and Savitri (Eastern Naval Command) sailed for Yangon on Saturday.
🔹 Indian Navy Ships Karmuk and LCU 52 (Andaman and Nicobar Command) departed on Sunday.
🔹 Relief Material: 52 Tons of aid, including clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency supplies.
🔹 India’s Commitment: Reinforces India’s role as the ‘First Responder’ in the region.

Earthquake Devastation in Myanmar

📍 According to Myanmar’s military government:

  • 1,700 people dead
  • 3,400 injured
  • Nearly 300 missing
    📍 United States Geological Survey (USGS): Final death toll could exceed 10,000.
    📍 Tremors felt as far as Bangkok and Chinese provinces.
