The discussions focused on enhancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with a firm emphasis on counter-terrorism cooperation.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Tokyo stated:

“H.E. Mr Vikram Misri, Hon’ble Foreign Secretary, joins H.E. Mr Takehiro Funakoshi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Government of Japan for the Foreign Secretary–Vice Minister Dialogue in Tokyo. Discussions covered advancing the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, and conveying India’s message on zero tolerance for terror.”

Earlier in the day, an All-Party Parliamentary Delegation from India also met with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, where India’s united stance against terrorism was reiterated in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

Foreign Minister Iwaya expressed solidarity with India and condemned terrorism in all forms. He praised India’s restraint, offered condolences for the attack, and called for strict action against perpetrators.

“He appreciated the restraint India had shown… He said that terrorism should be eliminated,” said JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, who led the Indian delegation.

The delegation also paid floral tributes at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Edogawa, Tokyo.

Sanjay Jha emphasized India’s global outreach to garner support against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, referencing Operation Sindoor.

“Pakistan is a state sponsor of terrorism… after the Pahalgam terror attack, India’s stance is to wipe off the terror sponsors. Now people from all over the world should gather to eliminate this source,” he stated.

The visit underlined India’s active diplomatic efforts to strengthen international counter-terrorism cooperation and further consolidate strategic ties with Japan.
