India, Israel Hold Defence Talks Amid Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict

According to the Ministry of Defence, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh received a phone call from Maj Gen (Res) Amir Baram, Director General of Israel’s Ministry of Defence. Baram provided updates on the current developments in the region.

New Delhi [India], June 19: Amid growing tensions in West Asia, Indian and Israeli defence officials engaged in high-level communication on Wednesday to discuss the unfolding security situation.

Escalation of Conflict Between Israel and Iran

Meanwhile, the conflict between Israel and Iran has intensified, entering its seventh day on Thursday, with both countries continuing to exchange missile and drone attacks.

In a post on social media platform X, the MoD said:
“Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh received a call today from Maj Gen (Res) Amir Baram, Director General of Israel Ministry of Defence, regarding update on current situation.”

As per reports by Anadolu Agency, Israeli missile strikes have killed at least 585 people in Iran and wounded over 1,300, while 24 Israelis have died and hundreds more have been injured in Iranian missile attacks.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed it was conducting a “series of attacks” in Tehran and other regions in Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) activated air defence systems over the capital in response.

Operation Rising Lion vs. Operation True Promise 3

On June 13, Israel launched a large-scale air offensive called “Operation Rising Lion” targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the operation as essential to eliminate the “Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival”, vowing that the campaign would continue “for as many days as it takes.”

In retaliation, Iran’s IRGC initiated “Operation True Promise 3,” a massive missile and drone offensive aimed at Israeli fighter jet fuel production facilities and energy supply centres. Iranian state media described the strikes as direct retaliation for Israel’s aggression.

International Reactions

Former US President Donald Trump, addressing the ongoing crisis, held a situation room meeting on Wednesday to discuss American options. Though he claimed to have a plan, Trump refrained from disclosing whether military action was imminent.
“I have a plan for everything… anything could happen,” he said, also expressing disappointment that Iran had not agreed to diplomatic terms during his presidency.

The ongoing conflict marks a dangerous escalation in the Middle East, with significant global implications and growing international concern.
