Canberra [Australia]: As the Indian cricket team readies itself for the much-anticipated pink-ball Test against Australia in Adelaide starting December 6, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar shed light on the team’s preparation and the role of senior players in fostering team culture.
Role of Senior Players
Nayar praised veterans Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for their unwavering support, despite not being part of the playing XI in the first Test due to team combination strategies.
“When you have seniors like Jaddu and Ash who understand the team’s goals, it simplifies everything. Their experience and willingness to mentor juniors reflect the team-first culture instilled by the coach and captain,” said Nayar.
Spinners and the Pink Ball
Discussing the potential impact of spinners in the day-night Test, Nayar remained optimistic about their adaptability to pink-ball conditions.
“Top-class spinners like Ashwin and Jadeja are always impactful. Adjustments in pace, release, and strategy are key, but their skill sets ensure they are never out of the game,” he added.
