New Delhi: India on Thursday condemned Pakistan’s role in the recent conflict with Afghanistan, asserting that Islamabad has a long history of blaming neighbors for its internal issues.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is closely monitoring the escalation, which began after a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul last week. Afghanistan responded strongly, leading to clashes. Both countries have claimed inflicting heavy casualties and agreed on a temporary ceasefire on Wednesday.
Key Statements from Randhir Jaiswal
Jaiswal outlined three main observations:
Pakistan hosts and sponsors terrorist organizations.
Blaming neighbors for internal failures is a long-standing practice of Pakistan.
Pakistan is angered by Afghanistan exercising sovereignty over its own territory.
He reaffirmed that India remains fully committed to Afghanistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
Upgrading of Indian Mission in Kabul
The spokesperson also announced that India’s technical mission in Kabul, operational since June 2022, will soon transition into a full embassy.
The upgrade follows wide-ranging talks between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
India had initially withdrawn its diplomatic staff after the Taliban took control in August 2021 and re-established a technical mission in June 2022.
“Our technical mission has been operational in Kabul since June 2022. Its transition to an embassy will happen in the next few days,” Jaiswal stated.
