New Delhi [India]: In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a crucial briefing with top envoys from G20 countries, including ambassadors from Germany, Japan, the UK, Russia, China, and Canada, at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi on Thursday.
According to sources, the 30-minute meeting at South Block was convened to provide a detailed account of the incident and to underline India’s diplomatic and security response to the attack.
Diplomats from nations such as the United States, European Union, France, Italy, Qatar, and Poland were also seen arriving for the closed-door session.
The move follows a string of stern decisions taken by India in response to the April 22 attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, where 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen were killed by terrorists, making it the deadliest strike in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had earlier implemented the following major countermeasures:
- Suspension of all visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect.
- Revocation of all valid Indian visas for Pakistani citizens effective April 27, 2025.
- Medical visas will remain valid only till April 29, 2025.
- Pakistani nationals currently in India must exit before their amended visa deadlines.
- Indian nationals in Pakistan have been advised to return home immediately.
- The Indus Waters Treaty (1960) has been put in abeyance.
- The Attari Integrated Check Post has been shut down.
- Pakistani High Commission officials have been declared persona non grata and asked to leave within a week.
- All SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) privileges have been rescinded, and Pakistani citizens under this scheme must depart within 48 hours.
These steps underline India’s growing assertiveness in responding to cross-border terrorism and aim to build global consensus against state-sponsored terror.
