New Delhi [India], December 20: Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other members of the INDIA alliance staged a protest on Friday over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha. The protesting MPs demanded Shah’s apology and resignation, holding a march from Vijay Chowk to Parliament.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned Shah’s remarks about Dr. Ambedkar, emphasizing that such insults would not be tolerated in India. Speaking to the media, she said, “They know that their true sentiments about Ambedkar ji have come out. Now they are scared of the Opposition because we are raising this issue. The national interest is linked to this matter. Ambedkar ji gave us the Constitution, and the people of this country and our freedom struggle are connected to it. Such an insult to him will not be tolerated by India.”
She also criticized the BJP-led government for avoiding a discussion on the Adani issue. “This Government is scared. They are afraid to discuss the Adani matter,” Priyanka Gandhi added.
The Congress MP from Wayanad further condemned the BJP for filing a complaint with the Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi for “assault and incitement.” She called the FIRs “false” and “baseless,” saying, “This is the Government’s desperation. They are lodging false FIRs. Rahul ji can never push anyone. I am his sister, I know him. The country knows this too. The country is watching how desperate they are, lodging baseless FIRs. These are all distractions.”
Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Akhilesh Yadav also joined the protests, stating that the Home Minister must apologize for his remarks. “The Parliament session might be concluding today, but the issues don’t end here. The insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar and the BJP’s attitude towards him must be addressed. The Opposition demands that Amit Shah admit his mistake and apologize. If we are to move the country forward, Babasaheb’s Constitution shows the way. The BJP is constantly trying to weaken our Constitution and democracy.”
SP MP Dimple Yadav demanded an apology from BJP MPs for insulting Dr. Ambedkar, calling him an idol for every citizen of the country.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die as protests continued in the House.
