Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], May 25: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership after India achieved a significant economic milestone by becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy. He emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming India into a developed nation, setting its sights on further climbing the global economic ladder.
Chouhan said, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, the ‘Maha Yagya’ for building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ continues unabated. Earlier, we were in 11th position, but we moved up to the fifth spot under his leadership. Now, we have reached the fourth position. Soon, we will reach the third and ultimately become the number one economy.”
Echoing this sentiment, BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari described India as a “shining beacon” amid global economic turbulence. He attributed the country’s rise to PM Modi’s strategic leadership over the past 11 years, which has solidified economic foundations and propelled consistent growth despite global uncertainties.
Bhandari termed this accomplishment as a pivotal milestone on India’s journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Malook Nagar also acknowledged the NDA government’s dual achievements—strengthening the nation’s financial standing and combating terrorism. “This month has been historic for both economic growth and national security. While former PM Manmohan Singh envisioned this economic stage by 2040, the NDA government has reached it by 2025,” Nagar stated.
Supporting this achievement, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam confirmed that India has surpassed Japan to claim the fourth spot globally in terms of nominal GDP. Citing the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s April 2024 World Economic Outlook report, he noted that India’s projected GDP for fiscal 2026 is around USD 4,187.017 billion, slightly higher than Japan’s estimated USD 4,186.431 billion.
Until 2024, India held the position of the fifth-largest economy in the world.
