India Clears ₹1.03 Lakh Crore Defence Procurement Plan for Missiles, Armoured Vehicles & EW Systems
In a significant step towards boosting the country’s defence capabilities, India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the initiation of a process to acquire arms and military equipment worth ₹1.03 lakh crore, the Ministry of Defence said on Thursday.
The major procurement proposals include:
- Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs) to support and maintain mechanised forces
- Advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems for all three services
- Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs) to bolster India’s air defence capabilities
According to the defence ministry, these acquisitions will further enhance the operational preparedness and combat readiness of the armed forces and align with India’s goal of self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in defence production.
The deals are expected to significantly benefit the Indian defence manufacturing ecosystem, with many of the platforms likely to be produced under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, involving domestic industry and public-private partnerships.
More details on individual tenders and timelines for the procurement are expected to be released following technical evaluations and bidding processes.
