India And Tanzania Pay Tribute To Dr BR Ambedkar On His 135th Birth Anniversary

Dar es Salaam [Tanzania]: Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth paid floral tributes to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Indian High Commission in Tanzania on Monday, marking the visionary leader’s 135th birth anniversary.

Speaking to media, MoS Seth said:

“We bow down to Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. We all paid tribute to him at the High Commission of India here in Tanzania.”

A special tribute event was held at the High Commission where dignitaries and members of the Indian diaspora paid homage to Dr Ambedkar, who is revered globally as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a relentless crusader for social justice and equality.

Earlier, the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations also commemorated Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary with a grand event at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event was attended by global leaders and diplomats.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted Ambedkar’s enduring contributions to India’s freedom struggle and constitutional framework. The event’s theme, “The timeless appeal of Dr Ambedkar’s vision within the UN and beyond,” reflected his global influence in advocating human rights and inclusion.

Affectionately called ‘Babasaheb’, Dr BR Ambedkar was born into an impoverished Dalit Mahar family in Madhya Pradesh. Despite facing deep-rooted caste discrimination, he emerged as a powerful voice for marginalised communities, launching movements against untouchability as early as 1927 and laying the foundations for social reform and legal justice in India.

On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament premises, honouring Ambedkar’s legacy.

In a post on X, PM Modi said:

“On behalf of all the countrymen, I bow down to Bharat Ratna Pujya Babasaheb on his birth anniversary. It is due to his inspiration that the country is dedicatedly engaged in realizing the dream of social justice today. His principles and ideals will give strength and momentum to the creation of an ‘Atmnirbhar’ and ‘Viksit’ India.”
