Mumbai: Income tax officials on Wednesday conducted searches at the Mumbai residence of actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra in connection with a case linked to her upscale restaurant chain Bastian, officials confirmed. Shetty is a co-owner of the brand, which was founded in 2014 and has expanded across multiple cities.
According to sources, the searches were not limited to Mumbai. Several premises in Bengaluru were also inspected as part of the same investigation, indicating a broader probe into the restaurant’s financial and operational records.
The tax action comes a day after the Bengaluru Police registered a case against Bastian Garden City, one of the brand’s outlets in the city, for allegedly operating beyond the legally permitted closing hours. Authorities had reportedly found the restaurant functioning late into the night, prompting regulatory action.
Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, are already facing legal scrutiny in a separate matter. The couple has been accused of cheating a businessman of Rs 60 crore in an alleged investment-related dispute. That case is currently under investigation, and both have denied any wrongdoing.
Officials have not yet disclosed the findings of the income tax searches or whether further action is likely. More details are expected as the probe progresses.
