As part of its multi-nation diplomatic outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, India’s all-party parliamentary delegation reached Japan, where Ambassador Sibi George reaffirmed the country’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and introduced what he called a “new normal” in India’s counter-terror strategy.
Speaking at a diplomatic interaction attended by envoys from over a dozen nations — including Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, Russia, and Singapore — Ambassador George highlighted the brutality of the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists. He attributed the attack to cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan, targeting a region that had seen peace, development, and rising tourism.
“Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places in India… things were getting normal. That is when the enemy decided to attack,” said Ambassador George.
He outlined the Indian government’s decision to wait for Pakistani action, which never came. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, executing precision strikes on nine terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
During the meeting, Ambassador George quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-point doctrine post-Operation Sindoor:
- A befitting reply will be given to any terror attack, on India’s terms.
- India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail; terrorist sanctuaries under its cover will be precisely struck.
- No distinction will be made between the terrorist, the mastermind, and the sponsoring state.
“The new normal is very clear — zero tolerance to terrorism,” George said, while also highlighting the state funeral of a terrorist in Pakistan as proof of state complicity.
The Indian delegation, led by MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, met with several high-ranking Japanese officials including:
- Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya
- Former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, now Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party
- Takashi Endo, Chairman of Japan’s House Committee on National Security
Japan reaffirmed its strategic support for India in its fight against terrorism.
The delegation also interacted with leading Japanese think tanks, receiving overwhelming support for India’s counter-terrorism position and outreach.
This visit is part of India’s broader initiative to build a global consensus against terrorism through Operation Sindoor’s diplomatic front, presenting a unified national voice across party lines.
India’s message, both militarily and diplomatically, is unequivocal: any act of terrorism will be met with decisive, unilateral response, and the era of restrained silence is over.
