The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed today that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Bihar and additional regions of eastern Uttar Pradesh as of June 19.
The monsoon’s deepening grip is expected to bring very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places across Gujarat, north Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Odisha today. The state of Jharkhand is also likely to experience similar weather conditions on June 19 and 20.
Regional Forecast Highlights:
- East & Central India:
Extremely heavy rainfall predicted at isolated locations over Jharkhand on June 19. - West India:
Extremely heavy downpours likely at isolated locations over Konkan, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and the Gujarat Region on June 19. - Northeast India:
Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most locations, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 7 days. - Northwest India:
Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast for Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan (June 19-25), and parts of Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad (June 22-25).
Very heavy rainfall is likely over:- West Uttar Pradesh (June 19)
- East Uttar Pradesh (June 20-21)
- East Rajasthan (June 19-23)
- Uttarakhand (June 22)
- Himachal Pradesh (June 22-25)
- South Peninsular India:
Isolated heavy rain expected in Kerala and Mahe on June 19 and June 22-25, and over Coastal Karnataka on similar dates.
Hot and humid conditions are likely in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema during June 19-21.
Odisha Weather Update:
According to Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, heavy rainfall was reported at eight to nine places in the state over the last 24 hours.
A well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and its vicinity is expected to intensify rainfall activity across Odisha for the next 2-3 days.
“Light to moderate rain may occur in most parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur on June 19,” Mohanty said.
With the monsoon gradually advancing, the IMD advises the public and authorities to stay updated on weather warnings and take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas.
