The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for multiple districts in Madhya Pradesh, as the state continues to face intense monsoon rains. The wet spell is projected to last until July 13, bringing the risk of flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in several regions.
In Delhi, a yellow alert has been issued for Wednesday, with warnings of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
Red & Orange Alerts for Madhya Pradesh
For Wednesday, a red alert has been declared in Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. An orange alert is in effect for nine districts including Khandwa, Harda, Betul, Hoshangabad, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Jabalpur, Umaria, and Anuppur.
On Thursday, Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla will move to orange alert, with Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Satna, and Rewa also coming under orange warnings. Similar alerts will extend across over 10 districts on Friday, and 9 on Saturday.
The entire state remains under a yellow alert until July 13.
Delhi Weather Forecast
The IMD’s yellow alert for Delhi warns of light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.
“Generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning,” the IMD noted.
From Friday to July 14, the intensity may decrease slightly, but scattered showers are still expected.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecast around 34°C, with humidity at 70% as of Wednesday morning. The AQI stood at 85, indicating moderate air quality.
Himachal Pradesh Faces Landslides and Flooding
Himachal Pradesh remains under a yellow alert until next Monday, with heavy rains forecast for Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, and Sirmaur on Wednesday.
From June 1 to July 8, the state received 203.2 mm of rainfall, significantly exceeding the normal average of 152.6 mm.
Flash floods, landslides, and road blockages continue to plague the state:
- 198 roads closed, including 150 in Mandi
- 159 transformers and 297 water supply schemes affected
- 52 rain-related deaths have been reported
Search operations are ongoing for 28 missing individuals in Mandi district.
Cloudburst in Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, an orange alert has been issued for Dehradun, Bageshwar, Tehri Garhwal, and Nainital.
A cloudburst near Mukh village in Chamoli district triggered emergency response, though no casualties were reported.
Heavy rainfall has damaged a bridge in Uttarkashi, while Alaknanda River levels surged in Rudraprayag—though still below the danger mark.
West Bengal Braces for Heavy Rains
Southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, experienced inundation in several areas following continuous rainfall since early Tuesday. A low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal is expected to move west-northwest toward Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Districts such as North & South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, Bankura, and West Midnapore are under alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. North Bengal districts—Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Kalimpong—are also expected to see intense showers.
