Illegal Lottery Racket Busted In Chennai; Daily Wage Workers Exploited In Multi-Crore Operation

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] : A massive illegal gambling racket violating the Tamil Nadu Lottery (Regulation) Rules, 2002, has been exposed in Chennai, allegedly targeting vulnerable groups such as daily wage workers, lorry drivers, and auto-rickshaw operators.

An investigation has identified a man named Palani as the mastermind behind the banned lottery network, which reportedly runs three draws daily — at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 4 PM. Ticket prices vary from Rs 30 to over Rs 500, with one- and two-digit lotteries being the most lucrative.

Visuals from the scene captured individuals allegedly involved in the racket fleeing with large amounts of cash when confronted. Despite the discovery, no official arrests have been announced, and law enforcement agencies have not confirmed whether an investigation is underway.

Shockingly, sources claim that certain police officials in the Poonamallee area have been bribed, enabling the illegal operations to continue unchecked. The lack of timely intervention has allowed the racket to entrench itself in vulnerable communities, with several workers allegedly falling into debt traps and gambling addiction, sometimes with fatal consequences.

The public is now demanding swift government and police action to shut down the operation and hold complicit officials accountable, citing the urgent need to protect Chennai’s most economically disadvantaged citizens from further exploitation.
