Swiatek becomes first Polish Wimbledon singles champion in Open Era, dominates Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in historic final, securing her sixth Grand Slam title across all surfaces
London [UK], July 13:
Iga Swiatek produced a flawless display of dominance at the All England Club, defeating Amanda Anisimova in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in just 57 minutes to lift her first Wimbledon title, making her a Grand Slam champion on all three surfaces—clay, hard, and grass. The Polish world No.1 is now the first woman in Open Era history from Poland to win Wimbledon and has also registered her 100th career Grand Slam match win.
The 24-year-old Swiatek, playing in her sixth Grand Slam final, kept her undefeated record in major finals intact, becoming the first woman since Monica Seles in 1992 to win her first six Grand Slam finals.
After the match, an emotional Swiatek said,
“I’ll always remember the sound of champagne bottles popping during serves—it’s a sound that will keep me up at night! There’s no tournament like this. I was always anxious because of the aura of Centre Court, but I really enjoyed it this year and improved my game enough to feel comfortable here.”
From the very first game, Swiatek asserted her control, breaking Anisimova with a tame forehand error. The American, who had played inspired tennis en route to her first Wimbledon final, looked overwhelmed by the moment, overcooking backhands and failing to find rhythm.
Swiatek’s relentless depth and explosive power saw her cruise to a 4-0 lead and then wrap up the first set in just 24 minutes. The second set followed a similar script, despite Anisimova’s brief attempt at revival with a stunning 90mph forehand winner. However, she couldn’t convert that spark into points, faltering again with unforced errors and failing to hold serve even once.
Anisimova ended the match with 28 unforced errors, as Swiatek sealed the championship with a clean backhand winner down the line, completing the rare ‘double bagel’—a 6-0, 6-0 win—in a Grand Slam final.
After the match, Anisimova graciously praised her opponent, saying:
“You’re such an incredible player, it showed today. You’ve been such an inspiration to me—an unbelievable athlete. Even though I ran out of gas a bit today, I want to thank the fans. You carried me through this championship.”
With this win, Swiatek becomes only the seventh woman in Open Era history to win Grand Slam titles on all surfaces, adding Wimbledon to her titles at Roland Garros, US Open, and Australian Open.
This landmark triumph also marks a shift in Swiatek’s legacy, solidifying her place as one of the most versatile and dominant players of her generation.
