Tel Aviv [Israel], July 16: In a targeted military operation, Israeli troops have completed the opening of the “Magen Oz” corridor in the Khan Yunis region of southern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Wednesday.
Corridor Details:
- The 15 km corridor stretches east to west across Khan Yunis.
- It is designed to disrupt Hamas operations and apply strategic pressure on the terror group’s Khan Yunis Brigade.
IDF Operations:
In recent weeks, Israeli forces operating in the area have:
- Eliminated multiple terrorists
- Dismantled terror infrastructure
- Uncovered and destroyed weapons stockpiles
- Neutralized underground tunnel networks
Background:
The corridor operation comes in the wake of Hamas’s October 7 attacks, which left at least 1,180 people dead and 252 individuals—both Israeli and foreign nationals—taken hostage. As of now, 50 hostages remain, with around 30 feared dead.
The “Magen Oz” corridor is part of Israel’s continued efforts to dismantle Hamas’s operational capabilities and secure strategic depth in Gaza amid ongoing conflict.
