Indian cricket team skipper Suryakumar Yadav has received an official warning from the International Cricket Council (ICC) over his remarks following the Asia Cup 2025 group stage match against Pakistan, according to a report.
Suryakumar had dedicated India’s victory to the armed forces and expressed solidarity with the families of victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. His comments reportedly triggered a formal complaint from the ICC.
The ICC Hearing
The India skipper, accompanied by BCCI COO Hemang Amin and Cricket Operations Manager Summer Mallapurkar, attended the ICC hearing, which was presided over by Richie Richardson. According to reports, a fine or a demerit point could also be imposed on Suryakumar.
During the post-match presentation on September 14, Suryakumar had said:
“Perfect occasion, taking the time out – we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity. Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery. Hope they continue to inspire us all, and we give them more reasons on the ground whenever we get an opportunity to make them smile.”
The incident further strained ties between India and Pakistan, especially after Suryakumar did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha in either of the two matches the teams played during the tournament.
Separate Hearing on Pakistan Players
Meanwhile, the ICC is also set to hear a BCCI complaint against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for provocative on-field gestures.
Farhan made a “gun” celebration after scoring a half-century in the Super Four clash against India.
Rauf was seen showing the controversial “6-0” gesture towards fans, referring to Pakistan’s past record.
