ICC Suspends Haris Rauf After Accumulating Demerit Points For ‘Jet Crashing’ Gesture In Asia Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced the results of several Code of Conduct hearings stemming from disciplinary incidents during the three highly charged India vs. Pakistan matches played on September 14, 21, and 28 during the Asia Cup 2025. The proceedings were overseen by members of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Disciplinary Action Summary

1. Haris Rauf (Pakistan) – Suspension Imposed

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf received the harshest penalty, resulting in a suspension.

  • Super Four Match (Sept 21): Rauf was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and handed two demerit points for his controversial ‘jet crashing’ gesture, which was repeatedly caught on camera.
  • Asia Cup Final (Sept 28): Rauf repeated the controversial ‘jet crashing’ gesture after taking a catch to dismiss Abhishek Sharma. He was fined an additional 30 per cent of his match fee.
  • Suspension Triggered: The two additional demerit points from the final brought Rauf’s total to four demerit points within a 24-month period, which automatically triggers two suspension points under the ICC’s disciplinary framework.
  • Sanction: Rauf has been suspended for Pakistan’s upcoming ODI matches against South Africa on November 4 and 6.

2. India Captain Suryakumar Yadav – Conduct That Brings Game into Disrepute

The verdict for the September 14 group-stage match was previously announced:

  • Charge: Suryakumar Yadav was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to conduct that brings the game into disrepute.
  • Penalty: He was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and handed two demerit points for his comments referencing the India-Pakistan border conflict during the post-match presentation.

3. Jasprit Bumrah (India) – Retaliatory Gesture

In a fresh hearing regarding the Asia Cup final, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah was also penalized:

  • Charge: Bumrah was found guilty of breaching Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
  • Penalty: He was handed one demerit point for responding to Haris Rauf with a ‘jet crashing’ gesture after dismissing the Pakistan bowler. Bumrah accepted the sanction.

4. Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) – Official Warning

  • Super Four Match (Sept 21): The Pakistan opener received an official warning and one demerit point for his ‘gun’ celebration after scoring a half-century.

5. Arshdeep Singh (India) – Acquitted

Following a complaint lodged by the PCB, alleging that India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh made a gesture in response to Rauf after Pakistan’s defeat, a hearing was conducted.

Verdict: ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft found Arshdeep Singh not guilty of the alleged breach of Article 2.6 (using a gesture that is obscene, offensive, or insulting), and therefore no sanction was imposed.
