New Delhi [India], February 5: ICC Chairman Jay Shah met with the Malaysia Cricket team responsible for the successful organization of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, expressing his appreciation for the seamless execution of the event. Shah congratulated the team on their efforts and praised their hard work in hosting the tournament.
“It was a pleasure to meet the hard-working team at @MalaysiaCricket who put on an amazing @ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Congrats on a job well done!” Shah wrote in his post on X.
The tournament saw Malaysia placed in Group A alongside India, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Unfortunately, Malaysia finished in the last position after losing all their matches.
India triumphed in the final, defeating South Africa by nine wickets. South Africa, who chose to bat first, were bowled out for 82. Gongadi Trisha led the charge with three wickets, while Aayushi Shukla, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Parunika Sisodia each took two wickets. South Africa’s top scorer, Mieke van Voorst, made 23 off 18 balls.
In the chase for 83 runs, India lost Kamalini early, but Gongadi Trisha (44* from 33 balls) and Sanika Chalke (26* from 22 balls) ensured an easy victory. Trisha was named both the ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her outstanding performance. She scored 309 runs at an average of 77.25 and a strike rate of 147, including a century, and took seven wickets.
Vaishnavi Sharma was the tournament’s top wicket-taker with 17 wickets from six innings, boasting an impressive average of 4.35 and best figures of 5/5.
