NEW DELHI – A small fight over a parking spot in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area has sadly led to the death of 42-year-old Asif Qureshi, who was the cousin of Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi. The tragedy that happened late Thursday night shows how scary it is that commonplace arguments can turn into deadly violence.
The Delhi police say that the fight started about 10 p.m. when Asif asked a neighbor to move a two-wheeler that was obstructing the main entrance to his house. The argument quickly evolved into a fight. Asif was reportedly assaulted with a “sharp poker-type weapon,” resulting in a significant chest injury. He was sent to a local hospital right away, but he was dead when he got there.
Delhi police have detained two males, Ujjwal (19) and Gautam (18), in connection with the murder. According to reports, both suspects live only a few meters from Asif’s house. A case has been opened under sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the investigation is still going on.
Asif had two wives and managed a poultry business. Shaheen, his wife, told the story of the night, saying that after her husband asked the neighbor to move the car, the guy “abused Asif and threatened to come back.” She added that the man came back with his brother a few minutes later and stabbed Asif.
Saleem Qureshi, Huma Qureshi’s father and Asif’s uncle, corroborated what happened. He informed reporters, “Two men parked a scooter in front of the house.” Asif told them to move it out of the way so they could get in. This escalated to a fight that started with words and ended with fists. They were two, and they killed my nephew jointly.
The event has shocked the people who live there, and they are worried about how small things may lead to such terrible things. Huma Qureshi has not yet spoken publicly about her cousin’s death. Asif’s body has been submitted to the coroner for an autopsy.
