Huma Qureshi’s ‘Bayaan’ To Have World Premiere At Prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2025

Mumbai, Maharashtra – July 24, 2025 – The highly anticipated film ‘Bayaan,’ starring Huma Qureshi, has achieved a significant international recognition, being selected for its world premiere in the prestigious Discovery Section of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025. The festival will occur in September, and “Bayaan” is the only Indian movie that will be shown in this prestigious section.

Bikas Ranjan Mishra, a well-known writer and director, is in charge of “Bayaan.” He is best known for his dramatic feature film “Chauranga.” “Bayaan” looks with complicated issues of power, gender, and the legal system in modern India.

Film Independent in Los Angeles made the movie, which shows how good its story and art are. Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films made it. Platoon One Films is an Indian studio known for its critically praised films like “Ghaath,” which won a Filmfare award and premiered at Berlinale 2023, and “Picasso,” which won a National Award and was Amazon Prime’s first direct-to-digital Marathi feature.

“Bayaan” is a co-production between Platoon One Films and Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, and Anuj Gupta. Sadik Keshwani from Switzerland (Guidant Films) joins as a co-producer, which shows that the film is a collaboration between people from different countries. Huma Qureshi is an Executive Producer on the project, which shows how much she cares about the film’s idea.

Chandrachur Singh, Sachin Khedekar, Paritosh Sand, Avijit Dutt, Vibhore Mayank, Sampa Mandal, Swati Das, Aditi Kanchan Singh, and Perry Chhabra are some of the excellent actors in the ensemble group.

In a press statement from the film’s makers, filmmaker Bikas Ranjan Mishra said that “Bayaan” is a powerful representation of modern India, where “power and gender intersect in volatile and often invisible ways.” He went on, “I’m trying to bear witness to a society in transition and to the quiet bravery of those who choose to speak.” I’m incredibly honored to show my second feature, “Bayaan,” at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section. This is a platform that has helped many filmmakers I admire and love get their start.

Huma Qureshi, who has always given strong performances in Indian and international films, said she was excited about the film’s world premiere in the Discovery area. She talked about how important it is in history, saying that this platform has helped begin the careers of famous filmmakers like Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, and Barry Jenkins, to name a few.

The actor characterized ‘Bayaan’ as a “timely and powerful story” about a woman caught in the crossfire of “power, faith, and systemic complicity” who must bravely confront a system designed to silence her. ” ‘Bayaan’ gave me the opportunity to play the kind of character I’ve long been drawn to, someone within the justice system, yet up against forces much larger than herself. It was an absolute joy to work with a team so passionate and fearless in telling a story that feels both vital and universal,” Qureshi stated.

Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films, an indie stalwart whose past work includes producing ‘Newton’ (India’s Official Entry to the Academy Awards 2017), ‘SIR’ (Cannes 2018), and ‘Ghaath’ (Berlinale 2023), conveyed the team’s immense honor in premiering ‘Bayaan’ at TIFF.
